Mother's Day for Mercedes

Project Type

Family Portraits - Portraits

Date

May 2024

Location

Kansas City, Missouri - The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

This is one shoot I'll never forget. Some of my most memorable times shooting photos are because of how much fun they were. This one brings forward memories of being so frustrated.

The Saturday before Mother's Day, I planned out a photo shoot for Mercedes. I got the kids outfit's, planned the location, and even bought some flowers. We got out, have a great time in the heat....and get some really nice photos. Later that night round 11 p.m., I pull my laptop and go to eject my card out of my camera to realize there wasn't one inside of it. Nikon has this thing on the Z6 that doesn't let you know if you don't have a card inside of your camera. It's pretty cool. All to say, I was in complete remorse. I had spent so much effort for nothing.

My wife had ultimately decided that we get dressed up after church the following day and go out and do it again because she knew how much they meant to me. And my kids weren't necessarily "excited" for it, but they came through and had great attitudes. And we got it done in about 30 minutes because we had practice the day before!

All to say, I still got photos of the family and these bring me so much joy. They're a good reminder of how much I love them but more importantly how much my family loves me, too. I hope you enjoy them!
